An alumnus of the Police Foundations program, JenJen Abella was a dual-sport athlete from 2013 to 2016, playing for Mohawk women’s basketball and soccer teams. JenJen’s talents and skill set over her three-year career were a major asset to the medal finishes for women’s basketball in the mid-2010s.
The Mohawk women’s basketball program won three OCAA silver medals with JenJen as a key member. Named the teams Most Valuable Player in all three seasons, JenJen was twice an OCAA First-Team All-Star.
JenJen’s skill set was shown on both sides of the court as she was named OCAA West Division Defensive Player of the Year in 2014-15 and that same year she received Mountaineers All Around Female Athlete of the Year. She closed out her Mohawk career earning OCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament All-Star and receiving Mohawk’s prestigious Dr. Sam Mitminger Award. In the classroom, JenJen was twice an OCAA and CCAA All-Academic. JenJen also once held the Mohawk record for threes in a season with 39 and assists in a season with 69, completing both feats twice.
