Melinda Coker began her basketball career at Mohawk College leading the women's basketball team to an OCAA Gold Medal in 1983 followed by a fourth place finish at the CCAA Championship. Melinda followed that result up with two OCAA Bronze medals in 1984 and 1985. Melinda's individual honours include an OCAA league and championship all-star in 1983, OCAA League All-Star Teams in 1984 and 1985, and at the time of induction she held the OCAA career league scoring record. Melinda was named Mountaineer Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year during her 1984 and 1985 seasons.
