Lisa Bertoncini began her career in archery at Mohawk College in 1975-76, and this proved to be the launching pad for national and international success.

Bertoncini made quick progress in the sport, winning Mohawk's Most Improved Player award her first season, and then in the following two seasons she won OCAA gold medals in both team and individual competition.

On two occasions, Lisa was Mohawk's Female Athlete of the Year, and then in her graduating year she received the Dr. Sam Mitminger Award from the college for combining athletic and academic excellence. In 1989, she became the first inductee into the Mohawk College Hall of Fame.

Her accomplishments beyond the OCAA are many, and include two world championship gold medals in 1984 and 1985, five national freestyle titles, a silver in 1986, and six provincial freestyle titles. In 1985, Bertoncini was inducted into both the Canadian Amateur Sports Hall of Fame and Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2003 was inducted into the OCAA Hall of Fame.
