Hall of Fame
A graduate of the Recreation and Leisure Services program, Matthew Schnarr was a member of both the men’s volleyball and badminton programs from 2003 to 2007. Matthew was not only a dual-sport athlete but a leader both on and off the court. He piled up accolades both with the volleyball team and as an individual playing badminton, while immersing himself in numerous student roles in Athletics.
The Mountaineers men’s volleyball had not won OCAA Gold since 1985-1986 but in Matthew’s third-year with the team that drought came to an end as the program captured the OCAA banner in 2005-2006. A year later Matthew won OCAA Silver with the team. As an individual in men’s singles badminton, Matthew won an OCAA Bronze medal in 2007. During his time as a student-athlete Matthew also racked up many awards at the Mountaineers Athletic Banquet. He was the All-Around Male Athlete of the Year three times, honoured with the Keith McIntyre Leadership Award twice and the recipient of the Department of Athletics Award in 2006. In 2007 he was named an OCAA First-Team All-Star in volleyball and received the Ontario College Recreation Campus Recreation Leadership Award in 2006.
Off the court Matthew helped create a great experience for his fellow student-athletes through his work as Chair of the Student Athletic Committee and Vice-President of Athletics with the Mohawk Students’ Association.
